The story of tea has been brewed for over 4000 years, since 2700BCe China, and more recently re-discovered by health enthusiasts seeking fast results. Like many edible-things during the initial Covid-19 wave, tea was not exempt to being experimented on by curios Ayurveda communities whom found results in Kombucha – a sweet, fermented rich-liquid of great delights scoring a melody of benefits.
Not Kombucha, which can host up to 14 living-bacteria which play vital roles as antioxidants,
probiotics, immunity and digestion boosters. According to health professionals, Bacillus coagulans – or bacteria capable of fermentation – such as Lactobacillus nagelii, Gluconacetobacter and Komagataeibacter species – also kill or supress harmful bacteria while doing their work.
In addition, vitamins and minerals including B1, B6 and B12 can also be found in the delicious drink. Less common, albiet frequently reported by users, are superior benefits to strength, stamina, hydration and even libido in women.
Those are the ingredients, plus water. And that’s it! Although many home alchemists attempt making their own Kombucha, few venture into a second batch after initial results; fermenting is an art, after all.
However, Eastern Cape Pharmacist, Siyabulela Semente, was quick to apply his knowledge in tea alchemy to create his bespoke brand of Kombucha products under Buché Beverages – a licensed drinks company now creating several variations of the drink.
Semente, the creator of Buché Beverages said, “I began making my own Kombucha and sharing it with friends and co-workers. Once I got back positive feedback – and empty bottles – I continued to experiment with different flavours and eventually decided to sell my product and create Buché Beverages.”
With no alcohol or excessive sugar, like most drinks, Kombucha is the perfect beverage for people of all ages. A unique taste that rivals iced-tea and far smoother than any alcoholic liquid – to be had at any time of day.
